speaker to parent-teacher evenings

speaker to parent-teacher evenings
During the parents’ evening, I guide guardians to reflect on some of the most central challenges in parenting today and to find practical ways of responding to them together.
The evening is based not only on the knowledge I have gained through training, but also on my experience as a special education teacher in early childhood education and basic education — and on my lifelong position as the mother of four daughters.
During the evening, I discuss topics related to children’s growth and development in my typical style: with warm, good-hearted realism. In order to keep going as a parent in the midst of all the challenges around us, it is also important to be able to laugh at ourselves and at some of our own choices. At the same time, we also need to stop and think seriously about the consequences our choices as parents may have in our children’s lives.
There are many things in our children’s growth environment that we cannot influence. But there are also a great many things we can influence. So let us focus on those.
In parents’ evenings, I encourage guardians to build a strong relationship with their own children, because this is the only way to truly get to know one’s child — and through that, to find ways to support that particular child. Children are all individuals, and therefore they need different kinds of support.
I guide parents to reflect on their own responsibility as educators and to find the courage to set boundaries for their child, because boundaries are the foundation of safety — and through safety, of development.
Parenting is not easy, nor is it meant to be. It is, however, one of the finest roles a person can be given in life.
The focus areas of the parents’ evening can be adapted according to the client’s needs, based on the phenomena that emerge, for example, in the unit’s pedagogical working groups.
testimonials
“Thank you for the encouraging lecture! During the lecture, I realised that I do far too much on behalf of my youngest child. We talked about it at home that same evening and agreed that now is a good time to start practising these things, since school starts in the autumn.”

“I just had to send you a message and tell you how great your lecture was — wonderful! I can’t remember the last time I sat for an hour and was able to simply listen. I’ll share the slides with the family group so others can reflect on them too.”

“Linda’s knowledge and expertise in early childhood education and parenting were clearly visible in the parents’ evening she led. We, the staff, were able to contribute to the content, and Linda made the evening practical, inspiring, clear, evidence-informed, and seasoned with just the right amount of humour. It was easy for guardians to take away concrete tips for everyday life.”
— Daycare staff
“Linda’s parents’ evening reflected her strong experience and expertise with different kinds of children in different environments. Linda spoke about important topics with heart and goodwill, in a way that allowed everyone to examine their own actions as both parents and professionals with compassionate honesty.”
