Psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families
At times we all find ourselves seeking balance. Even the strongest relationships go through difficult periods and, if the couple has children, they always react in some way. Some losses and life crises are harder to move forward from than others. Many external stressors are beyond our control. And sometimes the stressors come from within – past experiences affecting well-being and relationships today, negative self-talk, high demands for oneself, or e.g. adjusting to a recent ADHD diagnosis in adulthood. Different stages in life bring along unique developmental tasks. Many of my clients are young adults facing complex emotions and life questions as they shape their adult identity, and navigate studies, career, or first serious relationship.
However, we can influence our mindset, emotions, thought patterns, reactions, and choices. We can heal, learn and grow. Sometimes it helps to have a professional as a guide and support.
Cognitive analytic brief psychotherapy, emotionally focused couples therapy, and systemic, solution-focused family therapy are evidence-based therapeutic approaches. They are designed to utilize your strengths, help you recognize behavioral patterns, deepen your self-awareness and understanding of others, and equip you with skills that will benefit you long after therapy ends. Each of these modalities emphasizes the significance of relationships in well-being, aiming to understand the client’s situation holistically, examine relational dynamics, and identify and modify thought and behavior patterns that sustain difficulties and symptoms. Across all these approaches, the development of emotional and interpersonal skills is a central focus.
Brief psychotherapy is suitable for treating mild to moderate anxiety, depression, and burnout, supporting you through grief and life changes, identifying triggers from your past that influence your reactions and relationships today, strengthening emotion regulation, and much more. Emotionally focused couples therapy aims to return feelings of safety and closeness to relationship. Systemic family therapy looks at family dynamics and seeks to restore healthy dynamics and feelings of safety and closeness between parents and children. I am also experienced with the unique challenges of expatriate life and blended families.
Mari has the heart, the skills, and the tools to create positive change – regardless of a person’s age, profession, gender, or cultural background – and even in the most difficult situations.

As your therapist
I walk alongside you as a source of support, a listener, a sounding board, and a guide.
In the late 1990s, I taught a special education class in middle school. One Friday inspired by Himalayan sherpas, the teens wrote in their class journal how they choose the mountains the want to summit. My job is to help them pack the right gear, ensure their safety along the way, provide extra oxygen when needed, help carry their “stuff”, read the weather, and know the best climbing routes.
So, you choose the mountain. I am here to guide and support you along the way.
A huge thank you again for our session last week. It was incredibly helpful, and I’ve been feeling better than I have in a long time.
Book one appointment to see if we are a fit
In our first session, I will ask you to share what I need to know to help you as effectively as possible. Together, we will set initial goals for the process. I typically ask the following questions (from all participants):
- What is already working well, valuable, and important to you – what do you not want to lose?
- What would need to change for you to feel better?
- What would be a meaningful goal for our work together?
- What are you willing to do yourself?
- What do you expect from me?
You can reflect on these questions in advance if you wish. However, there is no obligation to answer any question during our sessions unless you feel comfortable doing so.

Important Considerations
Research shows that remote psychotherapy via secure video calls can be as effective as in-person therapy in many cases. However, it is important to listen to yourself and choose the format that feels right for you.
For serious mental health conditions and trauma, a longer therapy process and in-person sessions are often necessary. Please consult your doctor, who will guide you to the most suitable treatment for your needs.
