EASEL® has been developed since the late 90's to to enhance education, therapy and coaching processes. The structured approach and general process, facilitation principles, and the experiential tools and exercises are grounded in evidence-based education, counseling and therapy frameworks and social neurosciences. The general process description and facilitation principles can be tailored for different client groups, personal needs and goals, culture etc. and each facilitator’s own theoretical framework. 

EASEL®, combines effective elements from several models to maximize efficacy. The modern facilitation tools and principles come e.g. from Solution-Focused and narrative coaching and therapy, DBT, DDP, experiential learning, SEL, adventure education and the Montessori method, and are continuously developed according to research in related fields and social neurosciences.

In addition to your client’s personal goals and needs, EASEL® effectively enhances self-awareness, self-management, social skills and empathy, responsible decision making, joy, play and happiness caused by aesthetic, powerful experiences.

Experiential social emotional learning refers to learning about self and self in relation to others in authentic situations and the  environment selected for the session. The psycho-educational tools are also experiential. The biggest "adventure" happens always in the mind. EASEL® Facilitator influences this "adventure", the process and end results through direct interaction with the client, modelling, as well as through the design of the environment even in office setting.

Based on the facilitator's own specialities and the client's needs, the platform for authentic experiential social emotional learning can be many things. E.g. every-day situations at work, real tasks like school work or fixing a bike or cooking, as well as play, arts and grafts, nature adventure, and as perhaps the most powerful activities the process of making friends with an EASEL® dog or a horse. The facilitation is, however, more important than the activity itself.

To guarantee safety and consistently high level quality, all authorized EASEL®Facilitator training programs and methodology workshops are organized in Finland and abroad by EASEL Training and the course director holds EASEL®Trainer certificate. EASEL®HorseTraining has been developed for teaching riding and training horses.

A quantitative study on EASEL®'s efficacy is being conducted by Mari Louhi-Lehtio, who is in the doctoral program at Jyväskylä university department of psychology with Professor Kaisa Aunola as her supervisor.
